3M™ Reclosable Fasteners are also known as 3M Dual Lock™ Reclosable Fasteners. This is a two-layer laminate that consists of a proprietary snap-locking system layer and an adhesive layer. The locking system layer is made of polypropylene. The adhesive layer is 3M VHB™ Acrylic Foam Tape. Both 9.3 and 10.6 micron CO₂ lasers can be used for laser cutting 3M Reclosable Fasteners. The laser beam will rapidly heat and vaporize the material that is directly in its path, creating a smooth and clean cut through both layers. Laser cutting 3M Dual Lock Reclosable Fasteners has a distinct advantage over mechanical tools with traditional cutting edges. The blades of mechanical cutters can damage the polypropylene snap-locking system, but laser cutting is a non-contact process so it does not cause any damage.
