Corian®

Corian® Overview

Corian® is a solid surface material made by DuPont consisting of alumina trihydrate in an acrylic matrix. Laser processing of Corian® is possible with a 10.6 micron CO2 laser and a 1.06 micron fiber laser. The 9.3 micron CO2 laser is generally not recommended for laser processing as it does not efficiently absorb in the material. Laser cutting of Corian® produces a sharp cut but leaves a yellow tinted edge with a powdery residue. Laser marking of Corian® produces a faint smooth gray mark when using a white substrate with a 1.06 micron fiber laser. The CO2 laser does not create a contrasting mark and is not recommended for marking. Laser engraving of Corian® with the 10.6 CO2 laser ablates the material leaving a smooth surface with sharp features and no discoloration in the engraved area.
