Label Materials

Label Materials Overview

Label materials are multilayer laminates consisting of a plastic top layer, a contrasting bottom layer, an acrylic adhesive layer, and a paper liner. Commonly used label materials for laser marking and cutting are 3M™ Laser Markable Label Stock and Polyonics Markable Label Materials. Laser marking label materials is done using a 10.6 micron CO2 laser. The laser beam vaporizes the top layer, exposing the contrasting bottom layer. Laser cutting label materials can be done using either a 10.6 micron CO2 laser or patented MultiWave Hybrid™ technology. Multiwave Hybrid technology is beneficial if one of the layers is metallic, such as with Polyonics Markable Label Materials.
