PLA

PLA Overview

PLA, or Poly(lactic acid), is a biodegradable thermoplastic derived from renewable plant resources. Laser cutting of PLA can be performed with either a 9.3 or 10.6 micron CO2 laser. Laser cutting of PLA with a CO2 laser creates a clean, smooth edge without discoloration. Laser engraving of PLA with a CO2 laser creates depth with a clean colorless surface finish. Laser marking of PLA with a CO2 laser is not recommended as it does not produce a contrasting mark. Laser processing of PLA with a 1.06 micron fiber laser is not recommended as it is not readily absorbed by the material.
